Women Illuminate

Women in Jerusalem are excluded from all manner of religious and public appearance. In response, Rashut Ha’Rabim has launched Women Illuminate for the second year, whereby women lead public Chanukah lighting festivities. While at once placing women in the forefront, the initiative also encourages non-observant women to take an active role in leading the holiday prayers and blessings. This year, hundreds of women led candle lighting events, in their buildings, at formal and informal educational settings and more. 

Women Illuminate focuses on our determination to ensure that everyone has equal opportunity for public religious expression in the city beyond. Rights to public religious expression and recognition are integral to maintaining our Jewish identity and cohesion. Rashut Ha’Rabim espouses the right of everyone, with equal opportunity, to have their religious preferences recognized and respected in the public sphere.
